By Neil Henry - Candidate for Mendham Borough Mayor
Bud Murphy - Candidate for Mendham Borough Council

The era of softened municipal tax bills is ending and residents deserve elected officials who will be fully transparent with all tax-payers while leading Mendham Borough with the fiscal discipline they all deserve and expect.

The Fiscal Record: What the Budgets Actually Show

  • From 2018 to 2026, the municipal budget grew 18.6 percent from $8.45M to $10.2M.

  • Surplus drawdown has grown to offset tax increases ($1.46M in 2023 to $2.125M in 2026).

  • Personnel costs consume 46 percent of the total 2026 budget.

  • Health insurance costs have risen 54 percent since 2018.

  • The Borough’s administrative payroll has risen 37 percent from an average of $373,696 (2018-2026) to $513,493 that has been budgeted for 2026.

  • The Borough’s legal expenses have more than doubled since 2019 to the highest in Borough history

Our Fiscal Commitment

  • Full transparency on the use of surplus when developing future budgets.

  • A zero-based review of discretionary spending to identify genuine savings.

  • Initiative-taking pursuit of shared service agreements to offset frozen state aid.

  • Development of an accurate multi-year capital plan and year round budget planning.

Mendham Borough taxpayers deserve elected officials that manage Borough finances as carefully as they manage their own. We commit to doing just that. Please vote for Neil Henry for Mayor, Bud Murphy and Mike Zedalis for Borough Council on June 2, 2026
